The
gospel is one of peace and originates from the revelation of God and Jesus Christ
as revealed to the apostles recorded in scripture.
1. Righteousness is by faith not works. Many people stumble over this.
Romans 9:30What
shall we say then? That the Gentiles, which followed not after righteousness,
have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith.
31But Israel, which followed after
the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness.
32Wherefore?
Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of
the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone;
33As it is written, Behold, I lay in
Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him
shall not be ashamed.
2. Obedience is by believing. Disobedience
is by refusing to believe
and working one’s own righteousness by works.
|
|
But they have not all obeyed the gospel.
For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report? |
3.
Peter's witness on this same subject of Believing
is obeying; and not believing is disobeying.
1Peter 2:6Wherefore also it is contained in the
scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he
that believeth on him shall not be confounded. 7Unto
you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient,
the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the
corner, 8And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of
offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient:
whereunto also they were appointed.
4. Righteousness is by faith. Not works. Works are not grace but debt.
We are righteous by faith as Abraham and David
testify. Romans 4. http://www.blueletterbible.org/Bible.cfm?b=Rom&c=4&v=1&t=KJV#top
|
1What shall
we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath
found? |
5. The Law is
fulfilled by those who walk not after the flesh but after the spirit.
|
|
That the righteousness of the law
might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh,
but after the Spirit. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
6. To Believe is to REST ceasing
from our own works of flesh. |
|
1Let us therefore fear,
lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you
should seem to come short of it. 2For
unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word
preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard
it. *-1
3For we which have
believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my
wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from
the foundation of the world.
4For he spake in a certain place of
the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his
works. 5And in this place again, If they
shall enter into my rest. 6Seeing
therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was
first preached entered not in because of unbelief:
7Again, he
limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is
said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.
8For if Jesus had given them rest,
then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.
9There remaineth
therefore a rest to the people of God.
10For he that is entered into
his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from
his. (No works of the flesh allowed!)
11Let us labour
therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of
unbelief.
7. By faith in the gospel of Jesus
Christ, one is righteous without the deeds of the Law through the flesh.
Righteousness is by faith. Man believes unto righteousness.
Through the spirit, we yield to obey righteousness by faith in the operation of
God.
We are dead to sin but alive to God through Jesus Christ who is our
life and righteousness. We bare the fruit of righteousness through faith.
|
|
I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness
[come] by the law, then Christ is dead in vain. |
|
Therefore by the deeds
of the law there shall no flesh be justified in
his sight: for by the law [is] the knowledge of
sin. |
|
Therefore we conclude that a man is
justified by faith without the deeds of the law. |
|
For we through the Spirit wait for the
hope of righteousness by
faith. |
|
For therein is the righteousness
of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. |
|
|
Even the righteousness
of God [which is] by faith
of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no
difference: |
|
|
And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is
through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by
faith: |
|
|
By faith Noah, being warned of God of
things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his
house; by the which he condemned the world, and
became heir of the righteousness which is by faith. |
B. We are to
learn from the error of Israel and Judah
Romans 10:2For
I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to
knowledge.
3For they being ignorant of God's
righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness,
have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.
4For Christ is the end of the law
for righteousness to every one that believeth.
5For Moses describeth
the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things
shall live by them. (Curse to follow all Law; Debt is not grace)
6But the righteousness which is of
faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into
heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:)
7Or, Who shall descend into the deep?
(that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.)
8But what saith it? The word is nigh
thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which
we preach;
9That if thou shalt confess with thy
mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that
God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10For with the heart man
believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made
unto salvation.
11For the scripture saith, Whosoever
believeth on him shall not be ashamed. (stated several times by Paul
and Peter)
8. Moses and the Law was replaced by the
commandments and covenant of the "Prophet" 'to come', Jesus
Christ.
Deuteronomy 18:15; 17-19; Acts 3:22-23; Acts 7:37
Dt 18:15The
LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy
brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken
Moses repeats this theme again for 2nd time:
Dt 18:17And the LORD said unto me, They
have well spoken that which they have spoken.
18I will raise them up a Prophet from
among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth;
and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him.
19And it shall come to pass, that
whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I
will require it of him.
This was fulfilled by Jesus Christ the only begotten Son of God:
Jesus said:
|
Jesus answered them, and said, My
doctrine is not mine,
but his that sent me. |
|
He that loveth me not
keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye
hear is not mine, but
the Father's which sent me. |
|
For I have not
spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. |
9. The witness of the apostles Acts 3:22-23; Acts 7:37
Acts 3:22For
Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up
unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things
whatsoever he shall say unto you. 23And
it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall
be destroyed from among the people
and,
Acts 7: 37This
is that Moses, which said unto the children of Israel, A prophet shall the Lord
your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye
hear.
10. The Ten Commandments came by
Moses. The Law of Moses has been disannuled for those who have faith in
Jesus Christ.
a. We are dead to the Law of Moses. Believers are
free from the Law of Moses and are to marry Him that was raised from the
dead--Jesus Christ.
Romans 7:4Wherefore,
my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ;
that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised
from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.
11.The Law of Moses is not for the righteous but the
unrighteous...
1Timothy 1:9Knowing this, that the law is not
made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly
and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers
of mothers, for manslayers, 10For
whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers,
for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is
contrary to sound doctrine; 11According
to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.
12. The Law of Moses
was changed due to the change of the priesthood from a carnal
commandment unto the power of an endless life in Jesus Christ.
Hebrews 7:11If therefore perfection were by the
Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further
need was there that another priest should rise after the order of
Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron? 12For
the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change
also of the law.
13For he of whom these things are
spoken pertaineth to another tribe, of which no man gave attendance at the
altar. 14For it is evident that our
Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning
priesthood.
15And it is yet far more evident:
for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest,
16Who is made, not
after the law of a carnal commandment, but
after the power of an endless life.
17For he testifieth,
Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
18For there is verily a disannulling
of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness
thereof.
19For the law
made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did;
by the which we draw nigh unto God.
20And inasmuch as not without an oath
he was made priest:
13. Believers are DELIVERED from the Law of Moses by faith in Jesus Christ.
Romans 7: 6But now we are delivered
from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we
should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.
14. The Ministration of the spirit is
glorious. Contrast between the oldness of the letter that killeth.
The Letter to be "done away", "abolished",
for the more glorious administration of glory in Jesus Christ whereby the
Spirit of the LORD brings liberty.
2Corinthians 3:6Who
also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the
letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.
7But if the ministration
of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the
children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory
of his countenance; which glory was to be done away:
8How shall not the ministration of
the spirit be rather glorious?
9For if the
ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the
ministration of righteousness exceed in glory.
10For even that
which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of
the glory that excelleth.
11For if that which
is done away was glorious, much more that which
remaineth is glorious.
12Seeing then that we
have such hope, we use great plainness of speech: 13And
not as Moses, which put a vail over his face, that the children of Israel
could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished:
14But their minds were blinded: for
until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old
testament; which vail is done away in Christ.
15But even unto this
day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart.
16Nevertheless when it shall turn to
the Lord, the vail shall be taken away.
17Now the Lord is that Spirit: and
where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 18But we all, with open face
beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same
image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
15.The Cross of
Jesus Christ that provided for so much: Including abolishing in His flesh
the enmity, the law of
commandments contained in ordinances.
Ephesians 2: 13But
now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of
Christ.
14For he is our peace, who hath made
both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;
15Having abolished in
his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in
ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so
making peace;
16And that he might reconcile both
unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:
Colossians 2:10And
ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:
11In whom also ye are circumcised
with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the
sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:
12Buried with him in
baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of
the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
13And you, being dead
in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened
together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
14Blotting out the
handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and
took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
16. The Testimony of Peter and the
apostles regarding the place of the Law of Moses for those who believe in Jesus
Christ: Acts 15
Acts 15: http://kingjbible.com/acts/15.htm
|
1And certain men which came down from Judaea taught the
brethren, and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of
Moses, ye cannot be saved. |
|
17. The power of a new life in Jesus
Christ. Christ our life. Jesus our righteousness.
|
This is the gospel of God, the gospel of
His dear Son Jesus Christ, the gospel of peace. Believe the Word of God
and the power of the cross will be of effect to you. If you refuse to
believe the gospel and repent of dead works with faith toward God, the power of
the cross of Jesus Christ will be of no effect or profit to those who desire to
do or keep the Laws of Moses.
|
For what the law could not do, in
that it was weak through the flesh,
God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: |
|
1There is therefore now no condemnation to
them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the
Spirit. 9But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that
the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ,
he is none of his. 12Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live
after the flesh. |
18. The Alpha and Omega. The
beginning and the end. The beginning and the conclusion of the matter is
Jesus Christ.
Do you believe on Him? Do you believe that form of doctrine
from your heart? Are you obeying the truth through faith? Believe
and enter rest ceasing from your own works of flesh.
|
If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. |
