Isaiah 13: 1.The burden of Babylon, which Isaiah the son of Amoz did see. 2 Lift ye up a banner upon the high mountain,
exalt the voice unto them, shake the hand, that they may go into the gates of
the nobles. 3 I
have commanded my sanctified ones, I have also called my mighty ones for mine
anger, even them that rejoice in my highness. 4 The
noise of a multitude in the mountains, like as of a great people; a tumultuous
noise of the kingdoms of nations gathered together: the LORD of hosts mustereth
the host of the battle. 5 They come from a far country, from
the end of heaven, even the LORD, and the weapons of his indignation, to
destroy the whole land. 6 Howl ye; for the day of the LORD is
at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty. 7 Therefore
shall all hands be faint, and every man's heart shall melt: 8 And
they shall be afraid: pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be
in pain as a woman that travaileth: they shall be amazed one at another; their
faces shall be as flames. 9 Behold, the day of the LORD cometh,
cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall
destroy the sinners thereof out of it. 10 For
the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light:
the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her
light to shine. 11 And I will punish the world for
their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy
of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible. 12 I
will make a man more precious than fine gold; even a man than the golden wedge
of Ophir. 13 Therefore I will shake the heavens, and the earth
shall remove out of her place, in the wrath of the LORD of hosts, and in the
day of his fierce anger. 14 And it shall be as the chased roe,
and as a sheep that no man taketh up: they shall every man turn to his own
people, and flee every one into his own land. 15 Every
one that is found shall be thrust through; and every one that is joined unto
them shall fall by the sword. 16 Their children also shall be dashed
to pieces before their eyes; their houses shall be spoiled, and their wives
ravished. 17 Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them,
which shall not regard silver; and as for gold, they shall not delight in it. 18 Their
bows also shall dash the young men to pieces; and they shall have no pity on
the fruit of the womb; their eyes shall not spare children. 19 And
Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees' excellency, shall
be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah. 20 It
shall never be inhabited, neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to
generation: neither shall the Arabian pitch tent there; neither shall the
shepherds make their fold there. 21 But wild beasts of the desert shall
lie there; and their houses shall be full of doleful creatures; and owls shall
dwell there, and satyrs shall dance there. 22 And
the wild beasts of the islands shall cry in their desolate houses, and dragons
in their pleasant palaces: and her time is near to come, and her days shall not
be prolonged.
Isaiah 14:1. For the LORD will
have mercy on Jacob, and will yet choose Israel, and set them in their own
land: and the strangers shall be joined with them, and they shall cleave to the
house of Jacob. 2 And the
people shall take them, and bring them to their place: and the house of Israel
shall possess them in the land of the LORD for servants and handmaids: and they
shall take them captives, whose captives they were; and they shall rule over
their oppressors.3 And it
shall come to pass in the day that the LORD shall give thee rest from thy
sorrow, and from thy fear, and from the hard bondage wherein thou wast made to
serve, 4 That
thou shalt take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say, How hath
the oppressor ceased! the golden city ceased! 5 The
LORD hath broken the staff of the wicked, and the sceptre of the rulers. 6 He
who smote the people in wrath with a continual stroke, he that ruled the
nations in anger, is persecuted, and none hindereth. 7 The
whole earth is at rest, and is quiet: they break forth into singing. 8 Yea,
the fir trees rejoice at thee, and the cedars of Lebanon, saying, Since thou
art laid down, no feller is come up against us. 9 Hell
from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming: it stirreth up the
dead for thee, even all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from
their thrones all the kings of the nations. 10 All
they shall speak and say unto thee, Art thou also become weak as we? art thou
become like unto us? 11 Thy pomp is brought down to the
grave, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms
cover thee. 12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O
Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst
weaken the nations! 13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I
will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will
sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 14 I
will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. 15 Yet
thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. 16 They
that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this
the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms; 17 That
made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened
not the house of his prisoners? 18 All the kings of the nations, even
all of them, lie in glory, every one in his own house. 19 But
thou art cast out of thy grave like an abominable branch, and as the raiment of
those that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to the stones
of the pit; as a carcase trodden under feet. 20 Thou
shalt not be joined with them in burial, because thou hast destroyed thy land,
and slain thy people: the seed of evildoers shall never be renowned. 21 Prepare
slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their fathers; that they do not
rise, nor possess the land, nor fill the face of the world with cities. 22 For
I will rise up against them, saith the LORD of hosts, and cut off from Babylon
the name, and remnant, and son, and nephew, saith the LORD. 23 I
will also make it a possession for the bittern, and pools of water: and I will
sweep it with the besom of destruction, saith the LORD of hosts. 24 The
LORD of hosts hath sworn, saying, Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to
pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand: 25 That
I will break the Assyrian in my land, and upon my mountains tread him under
foot: then shall his yoke depart from off them, and his burden depart from off
their shoulders. 26 This is the purpose that is purposed
upon the whole earth: and this is the hand that is stretched out upon all the
nations. 27 For
the LORD of hosts hath purposed, and who shall disannul it? and his hand is
stretched out, and who shall turn it back? 28 In
the year that king Ahaz died was this burden. 29 Rejoice
not thou, whole Palestina, because the rod of him that smote thee is broken:
for out of the serpent's root shall come forth a cockatrice, and his fruit
shall be a fiery flying serpent. 30 And the firstborn of the poor shall
feed, and the needy shall lie down in safety: and I will kill thy root with
famine, and he shall slay thy remnant. 31 Howl,
O gate; cry, O city; thou, whole Palestina, art dissolved: for there shall come
from the north a smoke, and none shall be alone in his appointed times. 32 What
shall one then answer the messengers of the nation? That the LORD hath founded
Zion, and the poor of his people shall trust in it.
Isaiah 29: 9 And,
behold, here cometh a chariot of men, with a couple of horsemen. And he
answered and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of
her gods he hath broken unto the ground.
Isaiah 47: 1 Come down, and sit in the dust, O
virgin daughter of Babylon, sit on the ground: there is no throne, O daughter
of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called tender and delicate. 2 Take the millstones, and grind meal: uncover
thy locks, make bare the leg, uncover the thigh, pass over the rivers. 3 Thy
nakedness shall be uncovered, yea, thy shame shall be seen: I will take
vengeance, and I will not meet thee as a man. 4 As
for our redeemer, the LORD of hosts is his name, the Holy One of Israel. 5 Sit
thou silent, and get thee into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou
shalt no more be called, The lady of kingdoms. 6 I
was wroth with my people, I have polluted mine inheritance, and given them into
thine hand: thou didst shew them no mercy; upon the ancient hast thou very
heavily laid thy yoke. 7 And thou saidst, I shall be a lady
for ever: so that thou didst not lay these things to thy heart, neither didst
remember the latter end of it. 8 Therefore hear now this, thou that
art given to pleasures, that dwellest carelessly, that sayest in thine heart, I
am, and none else beside me; I shall not sit as a widow, neither shall I know
the loss of children: 9 But these two things shall come to
thee in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and widowhood: they shall
come upon thee in their perfection for the multitude of thy sorceries, and for
the great abundance of thine enchantments. 10 For
thou hast trusted in thy wickedness: thou hast said, None seeth me. Thy wisdom
and thy knowledge, it hath perverted thee; and thou hast said in thine heart, I
am, and none else beside me. 11 Therefore shall evil come upon thee;
thou shalt not know from whence it riseth: and mischief shall fall upon thee;
thou shalt not be able to put it off: and desolation shall come upon thee
suddenly, which thou shalt not know. 12 Stand now with thine enchantments,
and with the multitude of thy sorceries, wherein thou hast laboured from thy
youth; if so be thou shalt be able to profit, if so be thou mayest prevail. 13 Thou
art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the astrologers, the
stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from these
things that shall come upon thee. 14 Behold, they shall be as stubble;
the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver themselves from the power of
the flame: there shall not be a coal to warm at, nor fire to sit before it. 15 Thus
shall they be unto thee with whom thou hast laboured, even thy merchants, from
thy youth: they shall wander every one to his quarter; none shall save thee.
Isaiah 48: 20 Go
ye forth of Babylon, flee ye from the Chaldeans, with a voice of singing
declare ye, tell this, utter it even to the end of the earth; say ye, The LORD
hath redeemed his servant Jacob. 21 And they thirsted not when he led
them through the deserts: he caused the waters to flow out of the rock for
them: he clave the rock also, and the waters gushed out. 22 There
is no peace, saith the LORD, unto the wicked.
Jeremiah 50: 1 The word
that the LORD spake against Babylon and against the land of the Chaldeans by
Jeremiah the prophet. 2 Declare ye
among the nations, and publish, and set up a standard; publish, and conceal
not: say, Babylon is taken, Bel is confounded, Merodach is broken in pieces;
her idols are confounded, her images are broken in pieces. 3 For
out of the north there cometh up a nation against her, which shall make her
land desolate, and none shall dwell therein: they shall remove, they shall
depart, both man and beast. 4 In those days, and in that time,
saith the LORD, the children of Israel shall come, they and the children of
Judah together, going and weeping: they shall go, and seek the LORD their God. 5 They
shall ask the way to Zion with their faces thitherward, saying, Come, and let
us join ourselves to the LORD in a perpetual covenant that shall not be
forgotten. 6 My people hath been lost sheep: their
shepherds have caused them to go astray, they have turned them away on the
mountains: they have gone from mountain to hill, they have forgotten their
restingplace. 7 All that found them have devoured them:
and their adversaries said, We offend not, because they have sinned against the
LORD, the habitation of justice, even the LORD, the hope of their fathers. 8 Remove
out of the midst of Babylon, and go forth out of the land of the Chaldeans, and
be as the he goats before the flocks. 9 For,
lo, I will raise and cause to come up against Babylon an assembly of great
nations from the north country: and they shall set themselves in array against
her; from thence she shall be taken: their arrows shall be as of a mighty
expert man; none shall return in vain. 10 And
Chaldea shall be a spoil: all that spoil her shall be satisfied, saith the
LORD. 11 Because
ye were glad, because ye rejoiced, O ye destroyers of mine heritage, because ye
are grown fat as the heifer at grass, and bellow as bulls; 12 Your
mother shall be sore confounded; she that bare you shall be ashamed: behold,
the hindermost of the nations shall be a wilderness, a dry land, and a desert. 13 Because
of the wrath of the LORD it shall not be inhabited, but it shall be wholly
desolate: every one that goeth by Babylon shall be astonished, and hiss at all
her plagues. 14 Put yourselves in array against Babylon
round about: all ye that bend the bow, shoot at her, spare no arrows: for she
hath sinned against the LORD. 15 Shout against her round about: she
hath given her hand: her foundations are fallen, her walls are thrown down: for
it is the vengeance of the LORD: take vengeance upon her; as she hath done, do
unto her. 16 Cut off the sower from Babylon, and
him that handleth the sickle in the time of harvest: for fear of the oppressing
sword they shall turn every one to his people, and they shall flee every one to
his own land. 17 Israel is a scattered sheep; the
lions have driven him away: first the king of Assyria hath devoured him; and
last this Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon hath broken his bones. 18 Therefore
thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will punish the king
of Babylon and his land, as I have punished the king of Assyria. 19 And
I will bring Israel again to his habitation, and he shall feed on Carmel and
Bashan, and his soul shall be satisfied upon mount Ephraim and Gilead. 20 In
those days, and in that time, saith the LORD, the iniquity of Israel shall be
sought for, and there shall be none; and the sins of Judah, and they shall not
be found: for I will pardon them whom I reserve. 21 Go
up against the land of Merathaim, even against it, and against the inhabitants
of Pekod: waste and utterly destroy after them, saith the LORD, and do
according to all that I have commanded thee. 22 A
sound of battle is in the land, and of great destruction. 23 How
is the hammer of the whole earth cut asunder and broken! how is Babylon become
a desolation among the nations! 24 I have laid a snare for thee, and
thou art also taken, O Babylon, and thou wast not aware: thou art found, and
also caught, because thou hast striven against the LORD. 25 The
LORD hath opened his armoury, and hath brought forth the weapons of his
indignation: for this is the work of the Lord GOD of hosts in the land of the
Chaldeans. 26 Come against her from the utmost
border, open her storehouses: cast her up as heaps, and destroy her utterly:
let nothing of her be left. 27 Slay all her bullocks; let them go
down to the slaughter: woe unto them! for their day is come, the time of their
visitation. 28 The voice of them that flee and
escape out of the land of Babylon, to declare in Zion the vengeance of the LORD
our God, the vengeance of his temple. 29 Call
together the archers against Babylon: all ye that bend the bow, camp against it
round about; let none thereof escape: recompense her according to her work;
according to all that she hath done, do unto her: for she hath been proud
against the LORD, against the Holy One of Israel. 30 Therefore
shall her young men fall in the streets, and all her men of war shall be cut
off in that day, saith the LORD. 31 Behold, I am against thee, O thou
most proud, saith the Lord GOD of hosts: for thy day is come, the time that I
will visit thee. 32 And the most proud shall stumble and
fall, and none shall raise him up: and I will kindle a fire in his cities, and
it shall devour all round about him. 33 Thus
saith the LORD of hosts; The children of Israel and the children of Judah were
oppressed together: and all that took them captives held them fast; they
refused to let them go. 34 Their Redeemer is strong; the LORD
of hosts is his name: he shall throughly plead their cause, that he may give
rest to the land, and disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon. 35 A
sword is upon the Chaldeans, saith the LORD, and upon the inhabitants of
Babylon, and upon her princes, and upon her wise men. 36 A
sword is upon the liars; and they shall dote: a sword is upon her mighty men;
and they shall be dismayed. 37 A sword is upon their horses, and
upon their chariots, and upon all the mingled people that are in the midst of
her; and they shall become as women: a sword is upon her treasures; and they
shall be robbed. 38 A drought is upon her waters; and
they shall be dried up: for it is the land of graven images, and they are mad
upon their idols. 39 Therefore the wild beasts of the desert
with the wild beasts of the islands shall dwell there, and the owls shall dwell
therein: and it shall be no more inhabited for ever; neither shall it be dwelt
in from generation to generation. 40 As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah
and the neighbour cities thereof, saith the LORD; so shall no man abide there,
neither shall any son of man dwell therein. 41 Behold,
a people shall come from the north, and a great nation, and many kings shall be
raised up from the coasts of the earth. 42 They
shall hold the bow and the lance: they are cruel, and will not shew mercy:
their voice shall roar like the sea, and they shall ride upon horses, every one
put in array, like a man to the battle, against thee, O daughter of Babylon. 43 The
king of Babylon hath heard the report of them, and his hands waxed feeble: anguish
took hold of him, and pangs as of a woman in travail. 44 Behold,
he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of Jordan unto the habitation of
the strong: but I will make them suddenly run away from her: and who is a
chosen man, that I may appoint over her? for who is like me? and who will
appoint me the time? and who is that shepherd that will stand before me? 45 Therefore
hear ye the counsel of the LORD, that he hath taken against Babylon; and his
purposes, that he hath purposed against the land of the Chaldeans: Surely the
least of the flock shall draw them out: surely he shall make their habitation
desolate with them. 46 At the noise of the taking of
Babylon the earth is moved, and the cry is heard among the nations.
Jeremiah 51: 1 Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will
raise up against Babylon, and against them that dwell in the midst of them that
rise up against me, a destroying wind; 2 And will send unto Babylon fanners,
that shall fan her, and shall empty her land: for in the day of trouble they shall
be against her round about. 3 Against him that bendeth let the
archer bend his bow, and against him that lifteth himself up in his brigandine:
and spare ye not her young men; destroy ye utterly all her host.4 Thus
the slain shall fall in the land of the Chaldeans, and they that are thrust
through in her streets. 5 For Israel hath not been forsaken,
nor Judah of his God, of the LORD of hosts; though their land was filled with
sin against the Holy One of Israel. 6 Flee out of the midst of Babylon, and
deliver every man his soul: be not cut off in her iniquity; for this is the
time of the LORD's vengeance; he will render unto her a recompence. 7 Babylon
hath been a golden cup in the LORD's hand, that made all the earth drunken: the
nations have drunken of her wine; therefore the nations are mad. 8 Babylon
is suddenly fallen and destroyed: howl for her; take balm for her pain, if so
be she may be healed. 9 We would have healed Babylon, but she
is not healed: forsake her, and let us go every one into his own country: for
her judgment reacheth unto heaven, and is lifted up even to the skies. 10 The
LORD hath brought forth our righteousness: come, and let us declare in Zion the
work of the LORD our God. 11 Make bright the arrows; gather the
shields: the LORD hath raised up the spirit of the kings of the Medes: for his
device is against Babylon, to destroy it; because it is the vengeance of the
LORD, the vengeance of his temple. 12 Set up the standard upon the walls of
Babylon, make the watch strong, set up the watchmen, prepare the ambushes: for
the LORD hath both devised and done that which he spake against the inhabitants
of Babylon. 13 O thou that dwellest upon many
waters, abundant in treasures, thine end is come, and the measure of thy
covetousness. 14 The LORD of hosts hath sworn by
himself, saying, Surely I will fill thee with men, as with caterpillers; and
they shall lift up a shout against thee. 15 He
hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom,
and hath stretched out the heaven by his understanding. 16 When
he uttereth his voice, there is a multitude of waters in the heavens; and he
causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth: he maketh lightnings
with rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of his treasures. 17 Every
man is brutish by his knowledge; every founder is confounded by the graven
image: for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them. 18 They
are vanity, the work of errors: in the time of their visitation they shall
perish. 19 The portion of Jacob is not like them; for he is
the former of all things: and Israel is the rod of his inheritance: the LORD of
hosts is his name. 20 Thou art my battle axe and weapons
of war: for with thee will I break in pieces the nations, and with thee will I
destroy kingdoms; 21 And with thee will I break in pieces
the horse and his rider; and with thee will I break in pieces the chariot and
his rider; 22 With thee also will I break in
pieces man and woman; and with thee will I break in pieces old and young; and
with thee will I break in pieces the young man and the maid; 23 I
will also break in pieces with thee the shepherd and his flock; and with thee
will I break in pieces the husbandman and his yoke of oxen; and with thee will
I break in pieces captains and rulers. 24 And
I will render unto Babylon and to all the inhabitants of Chaldea all their evil
that they have done in Zion in your sight, saith the LORD. 25 Behold,
I am against thee, O destroying mountain, saith the LORD, which destroyest all
the earth: and I will stretch out mine hand upon thee, and roll thee down from
the rocks, and will make thee a burnt mountain. 26 And
they shall not take of thee a stone for a corner, nor a stone for foundations;
but thou shalt be desolate for ever, saith the LORD. 27 Set
ye up a standard in the land, blow the trumpet among the nations, prepare the
nations against her, call together against her the kingdoms of Ararat, Minni,
and Ashchenaz; appoint a captain against her; cause the horses to come up as
the rough caterpillers. 28 Prepare against her the nations with
the kings of the Medes, the captains thereof, and all the rulers thereof, and
all the land of his dominion. 29 And the land shall tremble and
sorrow: for every purpose of the LORD shall be performed against Babylon, to
make the land of Babylon a desolation without an inhabitant. 30 The
mighty men of Babylon have forborn to fight, they have remained in their holds:
their might hath failed; they became as women: they have burned her
dwellingplaces; her bars are broken. 31 One
post shall run to meet another, and one messenger to meet another, to shew the
king of Babylon that his city is taken at one end, 32 And
that the passages are stopped, and the reeds they have burned with fire, and
the men of war are affrighted. 33 For thus saith the LORD of hosts,
the God of Israel; The daughter of Babylon is like a threshingfloor, it is time
to thresh her: yet a little while, and the time of her harvest shall come. 34 Nebuchadrezzar
the king of Babylon hath devoured me, he hath crushed me, he hath made me an
empty vessel, he hath swallowed me up like a dragon, he hath filled his belly
with my delicates, he hath cast me out. 35 The
violence done to me and to my flesh be upon Babylon, shall the inhabitant of
Zion say; and my blood upon the inhabitants of Chaldea, shall Jerusalem say. 36 Therefore
thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will plead thy cause, and take vengeance for
thee; and I will dry up her sea, and make her springs dry. 37 And
Babylon shall become heaps, a dwellingplace for dragons, an astonishment, and
an hissing, without an inhabitant. 38 They shall roar together like lions:
they shall yell as lions' whelps. 39 In their heat I will make their
feasts, and I will make them drunken, that they may rejoice, and sleep a
perpetual sleep, and not wake, saith the LORD. 40 I
will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter, like rams with he goats. 41 How
is Sheshach taken! and how is the praise of the whole earth surprised! how is
Babylon become an astonishment among the nations! 42 The
sea is come up upon Babylon: she is covered with the multitude of the waves
thereof. 43 Her cities are a desolation, a dry
land, and a wilderness, a land wherein no man dwelleth, neither doth any son of
man pass thereby. 44 And I will punish Bel in Babylon,
and I will bring forth out of his mouth that which he hath swallowed up: and
the nations shall not flow together any more unto him: yea, the wall of Babylon
shall fall. 45 My people, go ye out of the midst of
her, and deliver ye every man his soul from the fierce anger of the LORD. 46 And
lest your heart faint, and ye fear for the rumour that shall be heard in the
land; a rumour shall both come one year, and after that in another year shall
come a rumour, and violence in the land, ruler against ruler. 47 Therefore,
behold, the days come, that I will do judgment upon the graven images of
Babylon: and her whole land shall be confounded, and all her slain shall fall in
the midst of her. 48 Then the heaven and the earth, and
all that is therein, shall sing for Babylon: for the spoilers shall come unto
her from the north, saith the LORD. 49 As Babylon hath caused the slain of
Israel to fall, so at Babylon shall fall the slain of all the earth. 50 Ye
that have escaped the sword, go away, stand not still: remember the LORD afar
off, and let Jerusalem come into your mind. 51 We
are confounded, because we have heard reproach: shame hath covered our faces:
for strangers are come into the sanctuaries of the LORD's house.52 Wherefore,
behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will do judgment upon her graven
images: and through all her land the wounded shall groan. 53 Though
Babylon should mount up to heaven, and though she should fortify the height of
her strength, yet from me shall spoilers come unto her, saith the LORD. 54 A
sound of a cry cometh from Babylon, and great destruction from the land of the
Chaldeans: 55 Because the LORD hath spoiled
Babylon, and destroyed out of her the great voice; when her waves do roar like
great waters, a noise of their voice is uttered: 56 Because
the spoiler is come upon her, even upon Babylon, and her mighty men are taken,
every one of their bows is broken: for the LORD God of recompences shall surely
requite. 57 And I will make drunk her princes,
and her wise men, her captains, and her rulers, and her mighty men: and they
shall sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake, saith the King, whose name is the
LORD of hosts. 58 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; The
broad walls of Babylon shall be utterly broken, and her high gates shall be
burned with fire; and the people shall labour in vain, and the folk in the
fire, and they shall be weary. 59 The word which Jeremiah the prophet
commanded Seraiah the son of Neriah, the son of Maaseiah, when he went with
Zedekiah the king of Judah into Babylon in the fourth year of his reign. And
this Seraiah was a quiet prince. 60 So Jeremiah wrote in a book all the
evil that should come upon Babylon, even all these words that are written
against Babylon. 61 And Jeremiah said to Seraiah, When
thou comest to Babylon, and shalt see, and shalt read all these words; 62 Then
shalt thou say, O LORD, thou hast spoken against this place, to cut it off,
that none shall remain in it, neither man nor beast, but that it shall be
desolate for ever. 63 And it shall be, when thou hast made
an end of reading this book, that thou shalt bind a stone to it, and cast it
into the midst of Euphrates: 64 And thou shalt say, Thus shall
Babylon sink, and shall not rise from the evil that I will bring upon her: and
they shall be weary. Thus far are the words of Jeremiah.
Revelation
14: And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an
hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father's name written in their
foreheads. 2 And I heard
a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great
thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps: 3 And they sung as it were a new song
before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could
learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were
redeemed from the earth. 4 These are
they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they
which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among
men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb. 5 And in their mouth was found no
guile: for they are without fault before the throne of God. 6 And I saw another angel fly in the
midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell
on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, 7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God,
and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him
that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters. 8 And
there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great
city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her
fornication. 9 And
the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the
beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, 10 The
same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without
mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire
and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the
Lamb: 11 And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for
ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and
his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name. 12 Here
is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God,
and the faith of Jesus. 13 And I heard a voice from heaven
saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from
henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and
their works do follow them. 14 And I looked, and behold a white
cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of man, having on his head
a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle. 15 And
another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on
the cloud, Thrust in thy sickle, and reap: for the time is come for thee to
reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe. 16 And
he that sat on the cloud thrust in his sickle on the earth; and the earth was
reaped. 17 And another angel came out of the
temple which is in heaven, he also having a sharp sickle. 18 And
another angel came out from the altar, which had power over fire; and cried
with a loud cry to him that had the sharp sickle, saying, Thrust in thy sharp
sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth; for her grapes are
fully ripe. 19 And the angel thrust in his sickle
into the earth, and gathered the vine of the earth, and cast it into the great
winepress of the wrath of God. 20 And the winepress was trodden
without the city, and blood came out of the winepress, even unto the horse
bridles, by the space of a thousand and six hundred furlongs.
Revelation 15: 1 And I saw
another sign in heaven, great and marvellous, seven angels having the seven
last plagues; for in them is filled up the wrath of God. 2 And I saw as it were a sea of glass
mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and
over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on
the sea of glass, having the harps of God. 3 And they sing the song of Moses the
servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are
thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints.
4 Who
shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: for
all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made
manifest. 5 And after that I looked, and, behold,
the temple of the tabernacle of the testimony in heaven was opened: 6 And
the seven angels came out of the temple, having the seven plagues, clothed in
pure and white linen, and having their breasts girded with golden girdles. 7 And
one of the four beasts gave unto the seven angels seven golden vials full of
the wrath of God, who liveth for ever and ever. 8 And
the temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God, and from his power; and
no man was able to enter into the temple, till the seven plagues of the seven
angels were fulfilled.
Revelation 16: 1 And I heard
a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and
pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth. 2 And the first went, and poured out
his vial upon the earth; and there fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the
men which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which worshipped his image. 3 And
the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as the blood
of a dead man: and every living soul died in the sea. 4 And
the third angel poured out his vial upon the rivers and fountains of waters;
and they became blood. 5 And I heard the angel of the waters
say, Thou art righteous, O Lord, which art, and wast, and shalt be, because
thou hast judged thus. 6 For they have shed the blood of
saints and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink; for they are
worthy. 7 And I heard another out of the altar
say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments. 8 And
the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him
to scorch men with fire. 9 And men were scorched with great
heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and
they repented not to give him glory. 10 And
the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom
was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain, 11 And
blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and
repented not of their deeds. 12 And the sixth angel poured out his
vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that
the way of the kings of the east might be prepared. 13 And
I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and
out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. 14 For
they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings
of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great
day of God Almighty. 15 Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed
is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see
his shame. 16 And he gathered them together into a
place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon. 17 And
the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great
voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done. 18 And
there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake,
such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so
great. 19 And the great city was divided into
three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in
remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness
of his wrath. 20 And every island fled away, and the
mountains were not found. 21 And there fell upon men a great hail
out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God
because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great.
Revelation 17: 1. And there came one of the seven angels which had
the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew
unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters: 2 With whom the kings of the earth have
committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk
with the wine of her fornication. 3 So he
carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a
scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten
horns. 4 And the woman was arrayed in purple
and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having
a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her
fornication: 5 And upon
her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF
HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. 6 And I saw the woman drunken with the
blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw
her, I wondered with great admiration. 7 And the angel said unto me, Wherefore
didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast
that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns. 8 The beast that thou sawest was, and
is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and
they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the
book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that
was, and is not, and yet is. 9 And here is
the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the
woman sitteth. 10 And there
are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come;
and when he cometh, he must continue a short space. 11 And the beast that was, and is not,
even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition. 12 And the ten horns which thou sawest
are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as
kings one hour with the beast. 13 These have
one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast. 14 These
shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord
of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen,
and faithful. 15 And he saith unto me, The waters
which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and
nations, and tongues. 16 And the ten horns which thou sawest
upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and
naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire. 17 For
God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their
kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled. 18 And
the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings
of the earth.
REVELATION 18: 18:1 And after these
things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the
earth was lightened with his glory. 18:2 And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is
fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of
every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. 18:3 For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication,
and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the
merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies. 18:4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my
people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her
plagues. 18:5 For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her
iniquities. 18:6 Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double
according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled fill to her double. 18:7 How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much
torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am
no widow, and shall see no sorrow. 18:8 Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and
famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the
Lord God who judgeth her. 18:9 And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived
deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see
the smoke of her burning, 18:10 Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas, that
great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come. 18:11 And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no
man buyeth their merchandise any more: 18:12 The merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of
pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all thyine wood,
and all manner vessels of ivory, and all manner vessels of most precious wood,
and of brass, and iron, and marble, 18:13 And cinnamon, and odours, and ointments, and frankincense, and wine,
and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and beasts, and sheep, and horses, and
chariots, and slaves, and souls of men. 18:14 And the fruits that thy soul lusted after are departed from thee, and
all things which were dainty and goodly are departed from thee, and thou shalt
find them no more at all. 18:15 The merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, shall stand
afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing, 18:16 And saying, Alas, alas, that great city, that was clothed in fine
linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and
pearls! 18:17 For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every
shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by
sea, stood afar off, 18:18 And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What city
is like unto this great city! 18:19 And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing,
saying, Alas, alas, that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships
in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate. 18:20 Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye holy apostles and
prophets; for God hath avenged you on her. 18:21 And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it
into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown
down, and shall be found no more at all. 18:22 And the voice of harpers, and musicians, and of pipers, and trumpeters,
shall be heard no more at all in thee; and no craftsman, of whatsoever craft he
be, shall be found any more in thee; and the sound of a millstone shall be
heard no more at all in thee; 18:23 And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the
voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee:
for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were
all nations deceived. 18:24 And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all
that were slain upon the earth.
